A VA is an executive assistant who works in his/her own office instead of in yours. Someone who takes care of the routine matters or the special projects. Someone who takes the strain and gives you back control of your time. A sounding board. Someone who has your back when you need to venture into new territory. Someone who's always there yet never in your way.
See advice on finding admin support by asking for what you want rather than accepting what's on offer here and how collaborating with someone with varied experience can be a boon here.
I'm Linda O'Neil, a bilingual Secretary/PA/VA with over 40 years' experience and an affiliate of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations. I launched Admin
Answers in 2001; before that I worked within Unilever for 15 years and have also worked for Data General Computers and Hygrotherm Engineering Ltd. I have trained clients in new software
products, provided IT support to hundreds of users across two factory sites, and I have experience of the ISO9002 Quality Assurance system, having written technical procedures, conducted audits and
maintained an audit schedule for a production environment.
Some of the things I can do for you include:
Whatever you would ask of the traditional office secretary, I can do for you from my own office - other than make you a cup of coffee! See the Testimonials page for some insights into how clients have benefitted.
In the arena of positive psychology, which focuses on a person's character strengths, my top five strengths are: curiosity, fairness, love, forgiveness and honesty (http://www.viacharacter.org/www/ Character-Strengths-Survey). I believe in
working in ways which use my strengths and allow clients to focus on their strengths, thereby working better and achieving their aims more quickly.
Outside work and family, my chief interests are dancing, music and motor sport. As you can see from the photograph, I was interested in anything on wheels from an early age. My experience in motor sport has helped me to be a better virtual assistant - you can see how by reading my blog here.
In 1983 I became Honorary Secretary of the Lancashire & Cheshire Car Club, a post I held for 26 years, then was Chairman from 2009 until the club's closure at the end of 2014. I was also Secretary of the Meeting for British Racing & Sports Car Club race meetings at Oulton Park.
I've had a go at the racing school at Oulton Park and wish I could afford to go racing on a regular basis as it's such fun! I can thoroughly recommend the services of a racing driving coach for anyone considering having a go at the sport: visit www.dbracedrivercoach.co.uk to meet David Bailey.
Moving to France in the Autumn of 2014 changed my life considerably and I have embraced my new home and lifestyle. I continue to work as before with my clients in the UK and elsewhere, and I have improved my language skills and found new friends by attending a local dance class, teaching an English conversation class and going to many of the huge range of live music concerts that take place frequently in almost every town and village in my part of France.
As we say over here: la vie est belle!
